Overview

Fee Free TAFE

This course is designed for individuals seeking to enhance their skills in numeracy for study or work. The course provides units of study that focus on developing the following key competencies.

Numeracy strategies: undertake basic math operation and problem-solving processes to communicate the results in a workplace environment. The unit of study includes revising numeracy such as, mathematical calculations, fractions, decimals, percentages, and common rates.
Estimation strategies: Develop and apply estimation techniques for accurate measurement and calculation of workplace tasks, effectively communicating results to co-workers and clients.

By the end of the course, students will have the confidence and skills necessary to perform required numeracy calculations in the workplace.

 The duration of this course is across 8 weeks or 36 hours with additional online learning or part time equivalent.

The total course cost may vary depending on the choice of elective subjects or if subjects are attempted more than once. Subject costs identified as Standard are partially subsidised by the ACT Government. Concessions may be available to eligible students.

Delivery for this course is blended; face to face and online.
This course of learning includes optional non-accredited study in maths fundamentals.

Entry Requirements

To meet the inherent requirements of this course students will need to be at exit level ACSF 2 with the aim and ability to progress to ACSF level 3 throughout the course of study.
Potential student might be asked to attend an assessment interview to ensure the suitability of the course for the student鈥檚 needs.

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework levels of at least 2 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your course of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this course. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with a lower level course, or enrol in the Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways (FSK20119) to develop your literacy skills.       Description: This unit describes the skills and knowledge to interpret and calculate with whole numbers, routine fractions, decimals and percentages for workplace activities and tasks. It includes interpreting and selecting embedded mathematical information, undertaking routine arithmetical problem solving processes, and communicating results to complete workplace activities.An individual performing these tasks works independently and uses their own familiar support resources.This unit applies to individuals who use, or are preparing to use, numeracy skills to complete workplace activities. This includes existing workers and individuals preparing for employment through vocational education and training.
